Temperance Square is a key project within the Loftus High Street regeneration masterplan, delivering a purpose-built adult learning and skills centre at the heart of the High Street. Located within the conservation area next to the historic Temperance Hall, the building needed to sit comfortably within its surroundings, whilst negotiating a constrained and steeply sloping site.
The finished scheme is modern and welcoming, whilst the contemporary building still respects the character of the High Street through a historic aesthetic allowing it to sympathetically complement the surrounding historic character. Creating a new public space on the tightly bounded High Street which was previously dominated by parking, was a key part of the brief. New public realm works have introduced green space and reinstated historic paving and scoria blocks, helping to reflect the town’s identity.
